Groups Invited to Join in RespectFEST 2017

Posted on May 8, 2017

MEDIA RELEASE - May 8th, 2017

(Vernon BC)... Dozens of community groups have started planning events as part of a RespectFEST 2017.  Walks and other activities that revolve around the concept of respect for nature, art, history, culture and education are being developed for the week-long festival September 18-24, 2017 marking Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation.

Any groups interested in creating their own RespectFEST event are asked to complete an online application form by May 31, 2017 and submit it online to the Downtown Vernon Association (DVA). The form is available at www.respectfest2017.com/applications.

The DVA is coordinating many of the activities along with the Allan Brooks Nature Centre and the Social Planning Council of North Okanagan.   Applications for performers and vendors are also available online and volunteers will be needed as well once events and schedules are determined.

Some of the events already in the planning stages include a multicultural food, music and dance festival, interpretive walks, outdoor excursions, a multicultural garden, and the creation of a public art piece.

An information session for any organization or group that would like more information prior to submitting their application to be part of the North Okanagan RespectFEST 2017 is invited to attend one of two information sessions:

Wednesday May 17  4:00 pm – 5:00 pm  OR  5:00 pm -6:00 pm

Downtown Vernon Association  #101, 3334-30th Avenue

Groups are asked to RSVP with their selected session time to [email protected]

All RespectFEST events and activities are being designed to call attention to the Respect theme: respecting our land and environment, honouring our indigenous history and roots, understanding our multicultural history, and recognizing the strengths that diversity brings to our community.

The North Okanagan RespectFEST is funded in part by the Government of Canada. Ce projet est financé en partie par le gouvernement du Canada.  Details about RespectFEST are posted online at respectfest2017.com as they become available.
